BABY CARE BASICS CLASS
This class is perfect for new parents that want to start off on the right foot. In this interactive class, participants will learn the basics of baby care through group discussion, demonstration, and practice exercises.
Gain confidence and discover how to more smoothly transition into your role as a parent. In addition, Dr. Harvey Karp’s The Happiest Baby on the Block® techniques will be taught to the class by a certified educator.
The Baby Care Basics class includes:
• Bathing and dressing baby
• Diapering, including cord and circumcision care
• Feeding and burping
• Establishing a routine
• Sleep tips
• Baby's temperament, cues, cries, sleep and wake patterns
• Safety and car seat installation information
• Concerns including; reflux, colic, baby acne, blocked tear duct, clipping finger nails, hair loss, flat spot and aspiration.
• How to sterilize and make bottles, proper human milk storage
• Gross and fine motor skill development
• When to call the pediatrician and common medical issues
• How to set up an efficient nursery and learn which products work best.
The fee for this informative class is $45. The Happiest Baby on the Block parent kit (The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD and "Super-Soothing" Sleep Sounds CD) will be available for purchase at the class for $20 via cash or check. This cost represents a $10 savings if parents were to purchase items online from retailers!
Class size will be limited to allow for questions and discussions.

KATIE SWINGLE, INSTRUCTOR
Katie Swingle is the mother of a toddler and is completing her postpartum doula certification through Doulas of North America. She is an ICEA Certified Childbirth Educator. Katie is a licensed Master’s level socia
l worker and involved in a variety of community groups for mothers, including La Leche League International and a local playgroup/support network that she organized.
Katie has always been interested in maternal and child health issues. Her undergraduate degree is in Community Health from the University of California at Davis. Her true passion for women and children during the postpartum period began when she had her son and lived in a state away from family members and was without much support. Katie realized that there was a significant void in support and guidance for mothers after birth and is committed to assisting families navigate through the often stressful time after a woman gives birth. She is committed to nurturing the entire family in order for both parents to feel secure in their new roles. Her unique experience as a new mother herself, a trained doula, and professional social worker make her well prepared to assist families in a variety of capacities.
